Malawi government has cancelled it’s earlier accreditation to have Enlighten Christian Gathering (ECG) Church conduct it’s crossover night at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.

This has come as ECG scheduled to host the 2020-2021 crossover night in Malawi as the leader of the church Prophet Shepherd Bushiri is in the country having fled from South Africa where he is undergoing trial on two different cases of flaud and money laundering of about K6-billion.

However in a statement Zambuye.com has seen, government has reversed the earlier authorisation citing COVID-19 and upcoming maintainance as the main reasons for the decision.

The statement state; “After further consultations with all relevant stakeholders, it has been noted the stadium may not be able to host your event considering the fact that despite reducing the number of participants the event is likely to attract people beyond even normal capacity of the stadium. This will contravene COVID-19 pandemic preventive measures”

It went further to explain that the stadium is to undergo maintenance in preparation for CAF inspection programmed to happen in early January 2021.

“At the time of inspection management may not have enough time to restore the stadium to it’s normal status due to anticipated damages and losses during your function, it takes time to conduct such restorations as proved from previous experiences.”

Meanwhile ECG is yet to make an official communication on the next plans following the postponement
