Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of the Enlightened Christian Gathering- ECG, says Jesus said people will know us by our works and not by what we preach on pulpit or by what miracles we can perform.

He made the remarks in Mulanje on Friday at Chiriza Primary School in Thyolo, where he donated 2000 bags of maize and cash to over 2000 households whose houses were blown off.

This comes after a similar activity yesterday in Mulanje where Bushiri donated assorted relief items including cash to 2000 households.

Latest data from the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (Dodma) indicates that over 22,790 households have been displaced.

A Statement released by Dodma on Friday says: “at least 77, 532 hectares of crops, mainly maize, groundnuts, soybeans, tobacco, rice and cotton, have been either washed away or submerged in six affected districts namely; Phalombe, Mulanje, Mangochi, Balaka, Chikwawa and Nsanje…”

Speaking in Thyolo on Friday, Prophet Bushiri urged people of goodwill to heed President Lazarus Chakwera’s call for more assistance in form of relief and rehabilitation items for families affected by the disasters that swept across the country last week.

In his remarks, Thyolo District Commissioner, Douglas Moffat thanked Bushiri for the kind gesture and asked people in the country, religious leaders in particular, to follow his example.
